Who set the seas in their place?

Okay, I'm reading a Psalm the other day, and a whole mind movie of God creating oceans, mountains, and putting them in their place, orbits, etc. is being played.

It was Psalm 104. Verses 5-10 says,
"You who laid the foundations of the earth, so that it should not be moved forever,
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters stood above the mountains,
At Your rebuke they fled;
At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away. They went up over the mountains;
They went down into the valleys,
To the place which You founded for them.
You have set a boundary that they may not pass over,
That they may not return to cover the earth.
He sends the springs into the valleys;
They flow among the hills."

And it dawned on me. NO WONDER Jesus's response to the fear in his disciples when the "great" storm hit their little boat was to marvel at their little faith! He knew that they knew this Psalm. They'd all been raised on the Old Testament. The Genesis- Who put the stars in their place, who hovered over the waters, separating land from water? Who made the orbits? Gravity, the Moon's cycles, the tides and the seasons?
They also knew about the Red Sea being parted, and later, the Jordan river.
And they were taught Psalms 104.
God rebuked the waters that were covering mountains, and they fled.
Why on earth, Jesus must've thought, would they be worried about a storm?
He rebukes it and it flees. It's that simple. He made water, He gave it it's boundaries, and He therefore had dominion over it.
No Wonder!
And I was reminded of the time several years ago when the TV Christian talk-show host,Pat Robertson, actually rebuked a hurricane off the east coast and got a lot of flack from the media for doing so. But later, it turned out, the storm actually didn't hit, it died down, or changed directions before hand.
Why did we doubt? Why do we worry? Is it because we really don't fully understand who this Jesus is yet, ourselves.
And He said we would do greater works than this, because He goes to the Father and the Holy Spirit is with us. So. Who is with us? Whose Spirit is it? Who hovered over the water as the worlds were made? (Gen. 1:2)

Contemplating Complacency

This morning I read about the transfiguration of Christ. (Luke, 9:7)
"Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep. "
While they were sleeping, Jesus was changed, his glory shone out of him and two guys from heaven came down. What kind of conversation they must have had! How glorious that glory must've been! Well, they finally did wake up and saw it, and Peter mumbled out something dumb that caused the Father to wake him up all the way, I think. But what hit me is that they missed something, almost missed the whole thing, because they were sleeping.
I heard a warning about complacency getting in the way of our experiencing the victories of God in our life.
I have been on a lot of vacations. I have eaten my way into 5 more pounds, give or take a few, depending on the scale...
And I have not been successful as yet in saying no to some pretty bad eating habits that I'd befriended in all my fiesting.
Then I was reminded of the part in the gospel about the seed that was planted on different soils.
( v. 11 The seed is the word of God.)
Luke 8:14 "Now the ones (seeds) that fell among the thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with the cares, riches, and pleasures of life and bring no fruit to maturity."
What does maturity mean?
Oh, grow up!!!
Sorry, I digressed into a little self-teasing.
My prayer life has been choked by the worries of people and things working out in life, work, etc. My TV and even excessive internet browsing seem to account for the majority of the pleasures of life that get between me and the maturing of the words(seeds) that have so strongly spoken to my heart. What about riches? My first thought is that I don't have a problem with that. Then I realized that the rich foods that I've been chowing down have left me with a complacency concerning seeking God, a heavy sugar, downer and overeater's slump.
When Jesus asked his friends to pray for him when he was distressed, and instead they fell asleep, he asked, " Could you not watch with me one hour?"
At this point in my fat life, could I? Could I stay awake to pray for one hour?
I've grown complacent and I don't like it.
At the end of the parable of the sower was this exhortation from Jesus, "Therefore, take heed how you hear;
for whoever has, to him will more be given, and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him."
"seems to have". It seems that you don't really have it til you take the time and clear away the weeds of worry, cares, riches and pleasures that block it from taking root in your own soul. You don't really have it 'til you hear it with a good and noble heart.
And 'til you keep it and bear the fruit of it with patience.

Okay, as if to add frosting to the cake of warning, I just read ahead to my next chapter in Luke.
It says, "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectantly.." Luke 21:34

God, give me a good and noble heart. Break the complacency.
I want to be one who will be there when you need me, and who will be able to be awake for the glory.
